National nutrition week (1-7.9.2017)
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar celebrated National Nutrition Week from September, 1 to 7, 2017, under the guidance of Dr. Vipan Kumar Rampal, Deputy Director (Training). This programme was organized in five adopted villages of KVK, Ropar viz; Mahlan, Bhaowal, Bhaini, Chaunta and Jhallian. Approximately 180 rural women included 90 young girls, 70 pregnant & lactating women and 20 anganwadi workers were covered under this programme. Dr. Rampal said this is our one of the small steps to motivate and aware rural people regarding good health and nutrition. He further said that people of all ages suffering from lots of diseases due to lack of nutrition. Dr. Mandeep Sharma, Assistant Professor (Home Science) said under this campaign we tried to cover maximum people specially children under 5 years, lactating mothers and pregnant ladies as they are much suffer from low nutrition. During this week, different lectures on weaning foods, balanced diet, sprouted pulses, breast feeding, reduce anaemia etc. were delivered to rural women to make them aware regarding nutrition. Method demonstrations on preparation of paushtik poha, multigrain dalia, sprouted moong and black gram chat, iron rich urad dal with spinach etc were given. Physical treatment of school going girls was conducted in the village Jhallian to analyze the iron deficiency in girls. It was found that most of the girls were anaemic. They were suggested to increase iron rich foods in daily diet.
